Producer : PESQUERA
Pesquera is the brain child of highly acclaimed winemaker Alejandro Fernandez, who established its Bodega in 1972. At that time, Fernandez had little to no formal winemaking training. The acclaim he’s received is a direct result of trial and error, hard graft and a uniquely open minded attitude to his wines. He is now one of Riber del Duero’s most distinguished winemakers. Pesquera is also credited with helping the region achieve DO status, largely due to the efforts of its famous founder. In the course of the Bodega’s history, Ribera del Duero has flourished into one of Spain’s most acclaimed wine making regions, standing shoulder to shoulder with Rioja and Priorat. Pesquera was famously reffered to as the ‘Petrus of Spain’ by Robert Parker.
All of the Pesquera red wines are made from 100% Tempranillo, with the ‘Crianza’ aged between 20 and 24 months in American and French oak barrels. They also undergo a long, slow maceration to maximise on colour and tannin extraction. The resulting wines are ripe, rich and velvety, with a spicy kick and marked freshness – a direct result of vineyard sites at a higher altitude.
