Producer : DOMAINE DE L’ERMITAGE
The de la Farge family have been making wine at Domaine de l’Ermitage in Menetou Salon, since 1520. Their relationship with the appellation is a close one. Bernard Clement (the grandfather of current owner Laurence de la Farge) played a key role in its founding nearly 60 years ago. Menetou Salon is a relatively young appellation, but it punches well above its weight. Situated just outside of Sancerre in the Loire Valley, its developing a reputation for wines that rival its famous neighbour, but for half the price. Stylistically similar, but lesser known, these are wines of exceptional quality and value for money.
Domaine de l’Ermitage primarily work with Sauvignon Blanc, which historically originates from the Loire region. Their painstaking attention to detail, in the vineyard and winery, really pays off – they are one of only two estates in Menetou, who hand harvest their entire crop and practice organically as much as the climate allows. The wines show a wonderful balance between mineral complexity, depth of fruit and elegance.
