Producer: Château Léoville Barton
Family-owned since the 19th-century, this château is today still managed by a member of the Barton family, and the wines are vinified at nearby Langoa Barton (one of the family’s many other esteemed holdings in Saint-Julien). The wines have significantly improved since the late 1980s, particularly owing to a run of excellent vintages (like 1990), a large amount of old vines, and vinification in traditional wooden vats. Barton wines offer exhuberant fruit in their youth, paired with cocoa, cedar, and coffee notes, supple tannins, and a velvety texture. They have remarkable potential to age and will do best after several years in the cellar!
