Producer : CHÂTEAU GUIRAUD
Acquired in 1766 by Pierre Guiraud, Chateau Guiraud is one of only eleven Sauternes producers to be awarded 1er Cru Classe status in the 1855 Classification. What is particularly unique, is that aside from Chateau Y’quem it is the only property to be located entirely within the confides of Sauternes itself. It is one of the appellations largest estates, but despite its size there are no efforts to cut corners. The entire 128 hectares are harvested entirely by hand, cask fermented, and receives between eighteen and twenty four months of oak age. These wines are designed to age for significant periods of time. The longer Chateau Guiraud spends in bottle, the more the eye watering acidity and sweetness of youth evolves into layers of caramelised fruit, marmalade, apricot tart tatin, and decadent honey. An incredible example of perfectly aged Sauternes.
