Producer: La Rioja Alta
Established in 1890, La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja wine. It is unusual for a great bodega of Rioja to own vineyards, but La Rioja Alta own 360ha from which they can source top-quality grapes, resulting in excellent fruit and richness throughout their wines. The company still maintains traditional Rioja winemaking practices whilst embracing many of the new technological advances. The 2007 904 Gran Reserva is made up of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from 60+ year old vines. Bright ruby in colour, moving towards brick on the edges. Aromas of pure cherry and plum aromas with hints of leather, earth and spice. Elegant and fine tannins with fresh acidity and a long finish. Drinking beautifully now but will also age well for another ten years.
Food Pairing: Lamb chops with a salsa verde
