Producer: La Rioja Alta
Established in 1890, La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja wine. The 2001 904 Gran Reserva is made up of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from 60+ year old vines. A slow, even vintage has produced a wine of great elegance and intensity, drinking well now to 2040. Intense but fresh, this wine has aromas of asian spice, balsamic, red fruits, and mocha. A round palate with sweet tanins leads to long-lasting finish.
Food Pairing: game birds such a pheasant or partridge, or a simple jamón and Manchego cheese board
